stonehenge, petrified wood and a really big volcano...

and that's just the first 2 days in washington!

on our way into washington, we cross the columbia gorge on highway 97; we have heard rumor of a stonehenge replica in Washington, built by Sam Hill as a WWI memorial and we want to check it out!  So glad we did, cause this thing is crazy cool and the maryhill story is kind of awesome!

yakima valley has been our home for the past few days, it's a good central location to "check shit out".

good morning yakima valley
so we did and here is what we found so far...

we drove north to ellensburg, took a right turn at highway 90 and made our way to Gingko
Petrified Forest State Park - we had no idea there was a petrified forest in WA...we now consider ourselves schooled!  this place is super cool.  first, a petrified forest covered by lava flows and then washed out by the flood caused by a breach in the ice dam...and that only happened oodles of times many, many thousands of years ago.  then there are the petroglyphs that had to be relocated to the state park cause of the big wanupum dam thing.  oh yeah, and there was a herd of big horns just hanging out!

sad...humans

apparently it is considered larceny to remove objects from the park

and then there is mount rainier...mother nature was good to us yesterday, she gave us a spectacular view!

taken at 5200'...peak is at 14,441'
1 more volcano to hunt down....here we go!
