the columbia gorge and a quirky little place called "the dalles"

after temporary repairs were made to the jeep and new “good” bumper brackets were ordered, we took a few days to check out a funky-fabulous blip on the map with some amazing historical importance…”the dalles”

on a clear day you can see both mount hood and mount adams from the dalles

mount hood & the dalles dam

the overland Oregon trail ends here at the deschutes river crossing – that’s where we stayed

"rock fort camp" is where Lewis and Clark camped during their historic journey to explore the Louisiana Purchase territory in 1805 and 1806…it’s still there and you can go see the ruins

awesome burgers and real milk shakes at big jims drive in...burgers made with love = so true!

a good number of rapids and waterfalls were sunk with the completion of “the dalles” dam in 1957; this pick was taken from celilo point

…there is a beautiful waterfall with a 20 foot drop here, it’s just underwater now!

you’ve got to get to the gorge and spend some time, the best resource for planning a trip is “Columbia River Gorge Visitor Magazine” …apparently there are more waterfalls and brew pubs “per capita” in the gorge…like you needed another reason to go!
