more than a pile of bones - Dinosaur National Monument

petroglyphs, class 4-5 rapids on the green & yampa rivers, Josie Morris Homestead (now, she was 1 tuff chic) and some of the most beatiful scenery you can imagine all cramed into 210,000 acres!

although the quarry is a huge draw and a must see if you make it to this corner of Colorado/Utah; after 3 days of exploration we have found that there is much more to Dinosaur National Monument than you would expect...unless you are an avid rafter and we are not, so anyway, here's our take on Dinosaur!

the Quarry:  pictures really don't do this place justice; the wall is 150' long, 50' high and from the second level you are about 25' away from the bones ie: the full skull below

these are about 4 feet long

the quarry building

they did exactly what earl douglas suggested and it is breathtaking
the Petroglyphs:  these are the rock art of the Fremont Culture and date back about a thousand years, there are hundreds of these amazing drawing and they are not all tiny...the adult figures below are about 4-5 feet tall..
I am pretty sure those kids have mickey ears on, just saying

our view:  from our campground on the green river...yeah, I know, it sucks, but we are dealing ;-)

the scenery in general:  breathtaking, beautiful, stunning...

plug hat butte

the green river - joey running from the swarm of mosquitoes waiting to greet us

there's still more to see....and, we're off!
