alamagordo, new mexico...what's a wiener to do?

sitting on the edge of the chihuahua desert in the lovely tularosa basin, just on the outskirts of Alamogordo, NM...we had a busy day on this cold & crisp december morning.  we are technically camping on the Holloman AFB (land shared with BLM and USDA-for bird watching) and have been treated to our own personal airshow with as many as (4) f-16's doing fly-bys and maneuvers as we watch in amazement.  we even had a drone come check us out....we waved!

so what does a wiener do in Alamogordo, NM?  glad you asked; this pack checked out 2 totally cool places....1st stop was the NM museum of space history.  this place was awesome; mom and I had time to take a quick selfie and check out the exhibits outside, while dad was inside learning more about the history of the space program.  Ham the Astrochimp, the first chimp in space is buried here...that seems kinda creepy but my humans thought it was cool, weirdos!

after a few errands in town, we made it to our 2nd super-spectacular destination for the day...white sands national monument.  this place is a huge, 275 square mile beach, consisting of rare gypsum sand...in fact it is the largest gypsum desert on this planet!  what's so rare about gypsum sand dunes, you ask?  gypsum dissolves in water...grok that for a few. told you it was cool!

i'm still looking for the water...
